Before they became 803 Studios, Chuck Brown [Bitter Root - Image Comics, Black Manta - DC Comics], Anthony Hightower [Gutwrencher - Image Comics], and Steven Prouse [Coin Operated Boy - Arcana Comics, The Ride: Savannah - Image Comics] wanted to create comic books. Pooling their resources, they created a book with one, simple purpose... give deserving local and regional creators a professional-looking, independently-published vehicle to be seen and heard.
803 was born.
Collecting four black-and-white stories, 803 raised the bar for indy creators bridging the gaps between hand-made ashcans and zines from the 80s and 90s to the on-demand, digital printers in the later 00s and 10s. This book launched the trio into a self-publishing world they never considered before, and it changed their lives.
